CONGRATULATIONS to our national Cooking up Change® champions!!! On June 9, 2014, Orange County’s first place team from Valley High School competed at the national Cooking up Change® competition in Washington, D.C.  This makes it the third consecutive year in a row that Orange County and Valley High School have taken home the national title!

Thank you to those that helped make the event a huge success-- our generous hosts, Northgate Gonzalez Markets, Chef Mentors, judges, volunteers, and all of the sponsors that continue to support Kid Healthy and the goals of Cooking up Change®.

Launched in Orange County in 2003, Kid Healthy seeks to eliminate health disparities by engaging school children and families from the most distressed, vulnerable and underserved communities of Southern California through culturally appropriate obesity prevention programs that measurably improve nutrition and fitness levels.

Kid Healthy is proud to have celebrated ten years of working in schools, youth agencies, community organizations, and after school sites to combat the rising trend of childhood obesity in Southern California. To date, we've impacted over 500,000 students, parents, and teachers. Working in collaboration with public and private non-profit agencies, Kid Healthy has put into place activities aimed to encourage students, teachers, and families to make healthy food choices and increase their physical activity.

The Kid Healthy Nutrition Education Material and Activity Plan closely mirror First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" Campaign.

Kid Healthy and the "Let's Move" Campaign support:

Offering parents the tools and information they need to make better decisions about their children's nutrition
Getting healthier foods in schools
Improving the accessibility and affordability of healthy foods
Increasing opportunities for kids to play and move more
