We welcome students, retirees and professionals! Operational and outreach needs include public relations, fundraising, event assistance, research, distribution and shipping. Volunteer Teams help Kid Healthy complete its mission.
Public Relations Volunteer Team Description: is responsible for the overall planning and publication of Kid Healthy's newsletter and news releases. This position reports to the head of the Public Relations Team.
Duties:
•Solicit stories from staff, volunteers, board members, home partners and contributing authors.
•Review for accuracy, grammar, spelling, etc.
•Develop themes for each issue of the newsletter
•Organize the taking of photographs (both 35mm and digital) of Kid Healthy/Padres en
•Using MS Word prepares News Releases, PSA's and fliers.
•Arranges text, photos and graphics into an interesting and informative regular publication.
Skills:
•Ability to write well in various forms including informative news, narrative and editorial.
•Ability to edit and be able to discern differences in syntax and grammar.
•Knowledge of word processing software of MS Word and Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop. Cross platform knowledge or Apple helpful.
•Ability to meet deadlines.
•Knowledge of various photo and graphic formats and their electronic counterparts.
Hours: Eight hours a month with up to twenty hours during some weeks of production.
Fundraiser Volunteer Team Description: is responsible for the research, planning and organizing of various Kid Healthy fundraising events. This position reports to the head of the Fundraising Team.
Duties:
•Review and research various fundraising plans.
•Make recommendations on which ideas best represent the organization, recruit new volunteers and generate income.
•Recruit new volunteers to help put on the event.
•Keep good records of contacts made, materials expensed and services offered.
•Assist with the development of an annual and perpetual long-range fundraising calendar. Work to avoid conflicting events and venues.
•Work with public relations staff to promote the event.
•Work with a team to target and solicit donors.
•Make sure donors receive and return donor forms.
•Work with the team to make sure thank-you's are sent out timely.
Skills:
•Ability to talk comfortably with a variety of people.
•Knowledge of word processing software of MS Word and email
•Ability to meet deadlines.
•Knowledge of money handling techniques.
•Experience in working with other organizations to co-sponsor events.
•Experience in managing a multitude of little details.
Hours: Eight hours a month with up to twenty hours during some weeks of organizing.
Program Volunteer Team Description: handles the overall planning and implementation of Kid Healthy community programs. This team reports to the Program Team Leader.
Duties:
•Solicit ideas for events, campaigns and enrichment programs from staff, volunteers, board members.
•Develop themes for each program.
•Solicit organizations and individuals to partner in programming.
•Assist with coordinating logistical needs.
•Organize the filming and the taking of photographs (both 35mm and digital) of events.
Skills:
•Ability to write well in various forms.
•Ability to talk to people from a variety of disciplines and walks of life.
•Knowledge of word processing software of MS Word and Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop.
•Ability to meet deadlines.
•Ability to manage many logistical needs in a changing environment.
Hours: Eight hours a month with up to twenty hours during some weeks of programs.
