With over 50 years serving communities, Jackie Teichmann created KID HEALTHY as a means to address the increasing number of obese children she'd served with a previous childhood diabetes organization. She reasoned that something must and could be done to PREVENT these diagnoses that heaped devastation upon the children as well as their families. Jackie's philosophy, "If it's meant to be, it's up to me," has helped her spearhead one of the largest organizations of its kind. |
The mother of a special needs child, Penny Lopez is a force to be reckoned with. With 15 years experience in the non-profit sector, Penny is the backbone of the KID HEALTHY organization. Her personal experience caring for a child living with juvenile diabetes adds an air of authenticity to her speech. She's been there and parents appreciate both her tenacity and empathy. School teachers and principals alike rely on Penny's knowledge and personal fortitude when working towards change within their communities.
A founding member of the Padres en Acción parent to parent mentor group (a division of Kid Healthy), Rosario Galeana has helped grow the program from its humble beginning to its multi-school campaign. Rosario has been instrumental in expanding the peer nutritional education program to mothers in urban Orange County and helping overcome cultural and lingual barriers between school administrators and Latino parents for the betterment of our communities.
